About EMMA-design

Emma Design was founded in 2005 by Marie-Anne Melis—that’s me. When choosing a name, I noticed that most emails addressed to me at the time started with “Hi M-A,” so it became Emma. In hindsight, “Design” wasn’t the most practical choice—the most unusual request I received was, “Can you design a wedding ring for me?”

I started nearly 20 years ago in The Hague, but I’ve been living in Joure, Friesland, for the past 17 years. To many, that sounds far away, and it is if you travel by car or train. Fortunately, with today’s online communication tools, distance doesn’t have to be a barrier when working on a project.

There’s nothing I enjoy more than solving puzzles—whether it’s working with data or web development. My core principles:

• Clear and structured communication
• Does what I see on my screen make sense?
• Can visitors easily navigate to the information they need?

You can’t control everything yourself—I provide the framework, and the client fills it in. That could mean adding content to a website or drawing further insights from a data dashboard or report.
