This week’s Figure Friday explored anonymized participant data from the 2024 NYC Marathon. The dataset included details such as age, finish time, and country of residence. The idea for this visualization came to me immediately—I couldn’t help but associate it with a bucket list experience.
Example contains:
- A card function that populates four cards with data for ages 30, 40, and 50, plus a fourth card displaying data for a user-input age.
- A line area chart showing the total number of NYC Marathon 2024 participants for each age, broken down by country of origin and gender.
Figure Friday is an initiative from the Dash/Plotly community. Every friday a new dataset is made available with some basic code to show a visual and an explanation of the subject. People are invited to adjust the code and improve the visual or create a small app. The next friday a zoom session takes place where some explain why they made what they made and others can give feedback, all in a constructive and respectful atmosphere. In the thread on the community site people share their visual, code and a demo if possible.
